In view of the current international situation we decided to organise the CYBATHLON and CYBATHLON Symposium 2020 in a new global format, mixing virtual and physical races and events. After consulting with CYBATHLON teams and Symposium keynote speakers, this decision was reached jointly with ETH Zurich and the CYBATHLON Organising Committee.

As a kick-off into this new CYBATHLON era, the CYBATHLON Symposium took place on 17–18 September 2020 in a new, entirely virtual format with a special focus on maintaining interactivity during talks, posters/demos and the podium session. The transition to this virtual format allowed us to ffer attendance free of charge, allowing to make it accessible to a larger public, and especially to students. 

The CYBATHLON Symposium 2020 was a great success: it highlighted the newest technical developments in the six disciplines of the CYBATHLON, and illustrated the benefits and challenges of user-centered design and evaluation of assistive technology. The positive impact of the CYBATHLON 2016 in promoting the involvement of users was clearly visible.

We are excited to inform you that the CYBATHLON Symposium 2020 is now freely accessible on the CYBATHLON YouTube channel! We thank all our speakers, participants and our partner for making this event possible, for their great flexibility, and most of all, for the inspring talks and discussions!
