Assistive Technology Challenge Course 2024
This semester, the second edition of our challenge-based, hands-on course „Assistive Technology Challenge“ saw students from various backgrounds design and build technical solutions to support individuals with physical disabilities in overcoming daily life barriers. We’re thrilled with the achievements of the students and the challengers Hannes, Milena, Cla, and Luc!
During intense 14 weeks, our students learned about project management, risk management, user-centered design, digital accessibility, accessible communication and environmental control, and applied their knowledge to create meaningful solutions for barriers their challengers face in daily life.
For Hannes, they created a modified chair which allows him to don his jacked independently. Milena now has a table she can attach to her wheelchair to use as a desk when working on her laptop or as a table to put her glass and food during apéros. Cla now has an actuated arm attached on his wheelchair which allows him to drink independently, solely by a click on his phone or by using voice control. Luc is now able to place his hands on his desk after driving close to the table with his wheelchair.
You can find the final project videos, showcasing the challenges and the solutions here.
