Olivier Lambercy

Olivier Lambercy is Adjunct Professor at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zurich, and the Co-Director of the Rehabilitation Engineering Laboratory. Born in 1982 in Vevey, Switzerland, he studied Microengineering at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, where he received the MSc degree in 2005. He completed his PhD at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2009, in collaboration with Simon Fraser University (SFU), Canada and Imperial College London. During his PhD, he investigated robot-assisted rehabilitation of hand function after stroke. He participated in the design and development of four dedicated robotic devices for forearm, hand and finger rehabilitation. He also performed several clinical studies using the developed robotic tools on post-stroke subjects in Canada and Singapore, in collaboration with Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

He joined ETH Zürich and the Rehabilitation Engineering Lab as a postdoctoral researcher in 2009, to continue his research on robot-assisted hand rehabilitation and the use of new technological approaches to improve assessments of upper limb function in neurological subjects. He was promoted to Senior Scientist (tenure) in 2017, and to Adjunct Professor in 2023.

Olivier Lambercy is a board member of the external pageInternational Consortium for Rehabilitation Robotics, a member and principal investigator at the Singapore-ETH Center as part of the Future Health Technologies program, and a Scientific Advisor to the ETH spin-off external pageAUXIVO.
