Federico Bauducco

Federico was born in Turin, Italy, in 1999. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 2021. He subsequently pursued his Master of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering, with a specialization in Biomedical Instrumentation, from the same institution in 2023. His master's thesis was conducted at the Motion Analysis Lab, located at Harvard Medical School and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, USA. Thesis title: "Scaling Stroke: A Biomechanical Analysis of Muscle Synergy Disruptions in Stroke Survivors

Subsequent to the completion of his Master of Science degree, he was employed as a research engineer at the Motion Analysis Laboratory until March of 2026. In the Motion Analysis Lab, the research was conducted at the intersection of neuroscience and rehabilitation, with a focus on neuroprosthetics, robotics, and biomechanics.

The doctoral program was initiated in April of 2026. His  location will be at the Balgrist Campus. The specific project on which he will be working has yet to be determined; however, the focus of my doctoral research is on sensing the intention to move in people with neurological movement disorders for the purpose of developing next-generation assistive technology. In addition, the PhD project is interwoven with the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network AERIALIST. The long-term objective is to promote research in the domain of neurorehabilitation and assistive technologies. The focal point of this objective is to ascertain and identify movement intention in individuals with neurological impairments. The subsequent objective is to translate these findings into adaptive, sensor-driven systems that enhance mobility and functional independence.
