Clément Lhoste
Clément Lhoste started his PhD at the Rehabilitation Engineering Laboratory in July 2024. As part of the smartVNS project, his research focuses on developing a movement-gated, non-invasive brain stimulation system for use in rehabilitation for patients with a stroke.
Clément, originally from France, holds a Bachelor of Science in Microengineering and a Master of Science in Robotics from EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne). His specific interests during his studies centered on the medical applications of robotics. Clément's master's thesis explored the integration of machine learning into the control of lower-limb exoskeletons. This research was conducted at the Neurorehabilitation and Neural Engineering Laboratory within Shirley Ryan Ability Lab in Chicago. Following his master's, Clément continued to work as a research assistant at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab, before joining the RELab.
