Christian Patience
Christian Patience started his PhD studies at ETH-Zürich in June 2021 as part of the Future Health Technologies (FHT) laboratory, located at the Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC).
His research focuses on developing and validating robotic technologies for minimally-supervised therapy of post-stroke upper limb impairments. He is particularly interested in implementing advanced control methods supporting physical human-robot interaction.
Christian was born in Delaware, USA, and received his BSc (2017) and MSc (2021) in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
His studies focused on designing and implementing control systems for autonomous aerial vehicles such as a passively-coupled tilt-rotor aircraft. He also completed an internship through the Mitacs Accelerate program in which he improved the control algorithm and performed flight experiments on an unmanned glider. Through his experiences as a personal trainer and as a member of the Raz Lab neuroscience laboratory, he was inspired to shift his focus to rehabilitation and robotics.
